Witch hazel , Latin name hamamelis virginiana L., is a small tree or shrub that belongs to the Hamamelidaceae family. It grows between 1.5 and 3.5 m in height. The flowers are yellow outside and yellowish brown inside, with four characteristic thread-like, about 2 cm long petals.
Tannin is extracted from witch hazel, has very high antioxidant properties which help to cleanse the skin and reduce the size of pores. It also maintains the moisture in your skin without altering the PH level, thus preventing further irritation. The reason witch hazel is so effective in skin care is because of its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities.
